New bands (well new to me)

Ok I just discovered a cover of Garry Moores 'Over the hills' by a band I'd never heard of called Nightwish, is this just a flash in the pan good song or do they have other good uns?

On another note (music, ha gedditt? Stuff you then) I'm looking forward to hearing the new Cauda Pavonis CD 'Carnival Noire' (plug). Looking forward to uploading it onto Kazaa as well, keep music free I say ;)

*settles back and prepares for Silverskulls music piracy rant*

Added bit, Nightwish are Finnish, just heard a couple more by them and its a case of ooooooooh, like dat.

Lordi are also Finnish, think I might have to visit Finland one day.

Just heard a couple more tracks, very good stuff, plus lead singer has Norks, yay.

Another very good band, and the lead singer also has nice norks (cool word! LOL), is Within Temptation. They are similar-ish, and from Holland.

They are not from the UK and they have a quirky accent that can be confused as Finnish ... plus the songs are great and the singer is hot with nice norks ... does that sell it any better? :D

My Dutch co-worker says that the band is quite good, however maintains that since they had a top 10 hit in the Netherlands recently they are taking a ride on the sell-out wagon.

I found out about Nightwish cos they did the song 'Nemo' at the end of the film 'The Cave'. Listened to the album with that on, and liked what I heard. Sort of a cross between later Sister of Mercy and Evanascence.

OK, you made me sit and listen to it within 3 minutes of entering the house, I hadn't even got my shoes off. You, obsessive? Nah!

Still, I'm converted; if only because their cover of Phantom of the Opera was the only 'non-ironic' version not a professional cast recording that didn't make me cringe.

No seriously, they're really good. Converted!
